I am Peter Augustin; I was born an ‘artist’ into a family of artists and musician in Slovenia. During my childhood I was an active painter following in the footsteps of my uncles. In my later teens I moved to Switzerland where I became more active in art, study in Arts School Lucerne, and private tuition from acclaimed artist Paul Haelan and Otto Gilli. I devoted large parts of my time to painting in between my tourism and hospitality work. I lived in Switzerland for 35 years, exhibiting there and in other countries including, Holland, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Russia.
My work reflects the passion and excitement of being an artist, it is symbolic, laden with colour and emotion. It is part of a larger context of culture and life rhythms of present and futures and lands travelled in. Pursuing my own unique artistic path, I hope to push more boundaries and part with gifts inspiring response to colours, emotion, love and a positive contribution to peoples lives.
My style of work has been described by gallerists as ‘lyrical Abstract’ which is connecting to my influencers, de Stael, Jawlensky, Dali, and Schiele. There are others and including the people around me. In New Zealand I am influenced by the vibrant colours of nature, amazing range of greens and blues, and the sea.
